Masimo Ordered to Pay $250 in Patent Lawsuit Against Apple

A federal jury in Delaware ruled on Friday that Masimo Corporation's (NASDAQ:MASI) smartwatches, specifically the W1 and Freedom models, infringed on two design patents owned by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). The jury decided that this infringement would result in a payment of $250 to Apple.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Apple's legal representatives emphasized their intention to seek a restraining order to stop Masimo from selling its smartwatches following the patent infringement ruling. This decision came after Apple presented its claim that Masimo had unlawfully copied the design elements of its patented smartwatch designs.

The ruling signifies a victory for Apple in protecting its intellectual property, particularly concerning the design elements of smartwatch technology.

The tech giant had previously unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 2 at an event held at the Steve Jobs Theater on its campus in Cupertino, California, on September 9, 2024. This latest development underscores the ongoing competition and legal battles surrounding innovative technologies and design rights within the tech industry.
