Norway Invests Over $360 Million in U.S. Air Defense Missiles
The Norwegian army announced on Monday that it has signed a deal worth 4 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately 362.91 million dollars) for the purchase of AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM air defense missiles from US officials.
Norwegian Defense Minister Bjoern Arild Gram emphasized the significance of this acquisition in the official statement from the Norwegian Defence Material Agency, stating, "With more and newer missiles, the Armed Forces of Norway will have a better capability to protect Norway against air attacks."
The missiles are expected to enhance Norway's ground-based air defense capabilities. Additionally, these missiles can be integrated into the inventory of F-35A fighter jets. According to the agency's records, this acquisition is noted as one of the largest single weapon purchases for the Norwegian Armed Forces.
Norway, a NATO ally bordering Russia, has committed to increasing defense spending following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The financial conversion used for this transaction indicates that 1 US dollar is equal to 11.0220 Norwegian kroner.
