Turkey Held Air Transport Talks with 22 Countries at ICAN 2024
Forecs - The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Civil Aviation Negotiations Event (ICAN 2024) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 21 to 25, 2024.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the event, which saw participation from 83 countries, aimed to strengthen relationships in the aviation sector and to sign or update air transport agreements among countries.
Representing Turkey, a delegation headed by Deputy Minister Enver İskurt and DGCA Director General Kemal Yüksek attended ICAN 2024.
The statement provided the following information:
"The Turkish delegation held bilateral meetings with a total of 22 countries during the event, including Hong Kong, Cambodia, Suriname, South Korea, Jordan, Switzerland, Malawi, Bahrain, Seychelles, Austria, Saudi Arabia, India, the Netherlands, Singapore, Russia, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Malaysia.
With the new agreements made, Turkey expanded its air connections. Turkey signed its first Air Transport Agreement with Malawi and Suriname, increasing the number of countries with which it has such an agreement from 173 to 175. As a result of the negotiations, 10 Memoranda of Understanding and 2 Meeting Minutes were signed. Under these agreements, Turkey gained an additional 143 passenger frequencies and 19 cargo frequencies in addition to its existing rights.
With these new agreements, Turkey's air connections have been expanded, while Turkish airlines have been provided with the opportunity to operate more flights to many important countries.
At ICAN 2024, significant agreements were made to enhance Turkey's position in international aviation and to increase its air transport capacity."
