Captivating Title: Mondi Group Shutters Its Bulgarian Paper Mill
Mondi Group, which operates approximately 100 facilities across 30 countries, announced the permanent closure of its paper mill in Stambolijski, Bulgaria, following a fire at the end of September. The London-listed paper and packaging company stated that the fire, which broke out on September 24, caused significant damage to the brown kraft paper machine, which had an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons. The company further noted that it has ceased production at the site.
After evaluating options for repairs, it was decided that the best course of action would be to serve customers, not part of Mondi's other kraft paper mills network. Mondi stated that about 300 employees would be impacted by this decision and anticipated net closure costs of approximately 100 million euros.
