Farmers in England Plan to Protest Tax Hike They Say Will Devastate Family Farms in Parliament
Forex - English farmers are flocking to Parliament today to protest against an increase in inheritance tax, which they claim will deliver a "hammer blow" to struggling family farms.
The UK has not witnessed large-scale protests like those that have clogged cities in France and other European countries until now. However, farmers are stating that they will escalate their actions if the government does not listen.
Olly Harrison, co-organizer of a protest aimed at filling the street in front of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office with farmers, said, "Everyone is going crazy." He noted that many farmers want to "hit the streets, block roads, and be completely French."
Organizers have called on protesters not to bring agricultural machinery to central London today. Instead, children riding toy tractors will lead a march around Parliament Square following a rally featuring speakers, including former "Top Gear" TV presenter and renowned farmer Jeremy Clarkson.
