On the last trading day of the previous week, the index increased by 2.67%, notably reaching a trading volume of 100 billion TL, which accounted for 78.6% of the total volume.
The upward trend in BIST last week began with the alleviation of uncertainty following the clarification of the U.S. election results and the positive perception of Trump’s victory for the Turkish market. Additionally, although an upward revision was observed in the inflation report announced on Friday, the market received positive messages regarding interest rate cuts. After the speech of the Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan, there were increased discussions in the market about a possible interest rate cut in December. In this context, banks showing gains of more than 5% during the day drew attention.
The positive effect in Borsa Istanbul appears to be carrying into the new week as well. The index reached an increase of nearly 1% in the first hour of the day, rising to 9,287 points. Among the sector indices, the fastest rising at the start of the day were tourism, electricity, and banking. The positive momentum in the banking sector continued with an increase close to 1.52%. Sectors that started the day in negative territory included sports, metals, construction, textiles, and food.
