"Replacing Aluminum with Copper Will Conserve China's Resources - CNIA"
The head of China's primary metal smelting industry group stated that promoting the use of aluminum to save on copper would help ensure the security of China's copper resources. In his speech at the Asia Copper Week conference, Ge Honglin, President of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA), noted that China is reliant on overseas imports for 70% of its copper resources and 60% of its aluminum resources, emphasizing that finding ways to use more aluminum would save money and provide greater security for the smelting industry.
Ge stated, "From a resource perspective, copper is more valuable and scarce compared to aluminum." He also mentioned, "The price per ton of copper is 77,000 yuan (10,666 dollars) and aluminum is 21,000 yuan, so using aluminum instead of copper already offers economic advantages." In his speech, Ge highlighted the need for the restructuring of copper refining capacity and company mergers in China, which is the world's largest consumer of the red metal used in electronics.
